In FaceTime on my iPad that camera is off and tapping the camera doesn’t turned it on
I FaceTime on my iPad I tapped the camera for Live Photo’s but it continues to say off.
The mute button beside it works

Check that the person on the other end hasn't disabled FaceTime Live Photos in Settings > FaceTime.
FaceTime pictures has word before because I have 26 pictures
I appreciate the info but I don't think of taking pictures until my grandson starts taking mine first
No need to touch the camera app.
Just click the FaceTime icon and it does the rest.
