The alert that you report is typically characteristic of a faulty folio keyboard. The electrical connections that pass though the flexible fabric hinges typically fracture - this usually resulting in errors and/or the on-screen notification that you see.
If the folio keyboard is faulty, whilst the Keyboard does not use Bluetooth, it is not inconceivable that a malfunction may affect other peripheral devices. I suggest that you remove the keyboard - and retest your Pencil.
The Smart folio keyboard itself is not repairable. The only remedy is replacement of the keyboard.

I was happily using my first generation Apple Pencil ✏️ which I bought with first generation iPad . Pencil is charged properly, it is working but with constant interruptions with warning ⚠️ Accessories is not supported on this device.. Charging definitely is not issue..
It should work. Make sure the Pencil is charged.
Are you using an Apple Smart Folio Keyboard?
Yes, I am using same original Apple smart folio keyboard. I have bought it together since beginning. Should I disconnect it while I am using pencil?? Until recently it was all normal!!
