Does AppleCare+ provide world wide coverage?

Could someone clarify if an iPhone has international warranty coverage?

In addition, what about AppleCare+ for iPhone? Can I get service under AC+ in a country different from the one where it was purchased?

Thanks!

Your interpretation is correct. In the real world Apple stores will usually try to accommodate minor repairs (screen, battery) if they can. However, any other repairs are not done on site; instead, the phone is replaced with the same model and your phone is sent to a central repair facility for refurbishing. But if you are not in the country of purchase they won’t have the same model phone to exchange; this is the primary reason for that clause.

Note that I said Apple Stores, however; Apple Authorized Service Providers will be much less likely to accommodate you, because they don’t get reimbursed enough to cover the repair. In particular, based on posts of others experience in the forum, you won’t be able to get service in India or Central/South America.

Hello,

Though this thread hasn’t been updated in a while, we identified an opportunity here to provide some clarity about the use of AppleCare+ around the world.

AppleCare+ offers local Apple hardware service when traveling around the world, subject to parts availability, and includes same-day service in most major metropolitan areas worldwide.

You can find more information about AppleCare+ for iPhone here: AppleCare Products - iPhone - Apple

Take care!

Thank you for your reply.

I went through the AppleCare+ TOS and found this:

"Please note that if you seek service under this Plan in a country other than your country of purchase, the service fee will need to be paid in that country’s currency and at that country’s applicable rate – for further details, including regarding applicable fees by country, please visit the AppleCare+ support website at apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/"

Which sounds to me like that the only difference in service for AppleCare+ will be the quantity and currency of service fee.

Could you please clarify how you have concluded that it is not covered at all?

Different models of iPhones are sold in different countries.

Apple does not stock replacements for devices not sold in the country where the service is being provided. With very few exceptions, you can not get an iPhone replaced in a country other than the one where it was originally sold. (as noted above, the EU is "one country").

You should buy a phone in the country where you intend to use it.

AppleCare+ is available internationally for Macs. So, what you've quoted would apply to a Mac repair.

Apple States in their warranty document:

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV and HOMEPOD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

So, is it possible that, if it's a small thing that doesn't require replacing the phone that an Apple Store in another country might help you out? Yes. Are they obligated to do so? No.

For the benefit of other's who may chance upon this discussion

4.1 states

"Apple may restrict Hardware Service and ADH Services to the country where the Covered Equipment was originally purchased"

Thank you for the clarification.

It seems to me that they haven't ruled out such services, but want to be able to back out of it it is too inconvenient and/or expensive.

I do wish they were definitive about it.

Thank you all for your replies.

In the event that the entire iPhone needs replacing, a country other than the one the device was purchased in simply won’t have the appropriate model available for replacement. So they then refuse service. If it is something that can be fixed without having to replace the entire device (battery replacement for example) people often can get service in another country.

Note that Apple’s standard service is to repair displays and battery only. For everything else they replace devices. iPhone models are only available in the country they are intended for, so replacement is not possible in countries other than where the device was originally purchased.
