Let's work together to ensure you never miss an important notification! To get started, is this only happening with the Messages app, or is also this happening with any other third-party messenger applications? Do you still get alert sounds for other features like when you receive a phone call?
Meanwhile, other than the sound, do you still see the notification pop up as banners or on the Lock Screen etc? We'll also want to double check your iPhone and Apple Watch notification settings:
Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch Then review the: "If you don't see notifications for a specific app" section.
Notifications on your Apple Watch Then review the: "If you don't see notifications on your Apple Watch" section.
Also, be sure to install any available updates for your Apple Watch and iPhone:
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Once that is done, go ahead and try testing things out again.
