Iphone keyboard glitch: relearns deleted words

This has been happening for a few months now. Every time I reset my keyboard it works for a few days and then all the words that have been deleted come back like the phone never forgot them. My phone is an iPhone 7, I am on the most current version of iOS, I have no other keyboards installed except the emoji keyboard, I have turned my phone on and off again after resetting but nothing works. I even reset the keyboard of my previous iPhone that my apple ID is no longer connected to.

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Hi Alice_lee,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Community. It sounds like there are words that you'd like your phone to stop learning.

If predictive text is on, resetting your Keyboard isn't a long-term solution because predictive text will keep relearning the words. You'll need to 'Turn off predictive text' as outlined in Use predictive text on iPhone. Turning off predictive text will still try to suggest misspelled words, to reject the prediction tap the "x." After a few times, the iPhone will stop suggesting it.

If the issue remains after those steps, let us know if predictive text is already off.

Best.

Hi Alice_lee,

We totally understand wanting to keep the predictive text feature on. We'd suggest temporarily turning it off to find out if it's the source of the issue. This will help to find out where the root cause of the issue is with the Keyboard. Predictive text gives suggestions based on your recent activity and information from your apps.

If you continue to experience issues after following the steps and suggestions above, please contact Apple Support for additional assistance: Get Support

We hope that helps with your question and take care!

Hi again Alice_lee,

Thanks for the clarification.

You mentioned that these are not misspelled words, but names. Just curious, how do you know the keyboard is relearning them if you don't use the words? Do they come up through predictive text or somewhere else?

What happens if you experiment and turn off predictive text do those names stop appearing? This will be a good test to definitively see if it's that feature that's affecting your keyboard.

Best!

Hi Sharon,

I appreciate the response but that unfortunately isn’t what the issue is. My phone isn’t relearning words I misspelled because I continue to misspell them it’s relearning words I do not use (not typos) after it has been reset multiple times. So names of characters I no longer talk about or custom names of people. The phone just relearns these words in 1-2 days on it’s own without me doing anything. As if my keyboard never reset.

Hi thanks for the reply!

To start I do not want to turn off predictive because I like using it, and before this glitch happened when I would reset my dictionary it would remove all custom and learned words (as it says in the pop up when you’re going to reset your keyboard.) It’s supposed to go back to how the keyboard is when you first get the phone. However my keyboard only does that for a few days and then glitches and goes back to how it was before it was reset (similar to how when you permanently delete pictures from the trash they can still come back). So if I type B the predictive will recommend a custom word my keyboard used to know that the keyboard should not know because it is reset. However keyboard reset seems to not work anymore.
