My PhotosLibrary has an extension [dot]photolibrary? is this correct? I am using a photo editing program "PhotoScape X"; when I click on PICTURES my PhotoLibrary does not show up. Thus I cannot load photos to the editing program.

Yes, the Photos libraries have that extension (though most people seem to only one library, it’s perfectly possible to have more than one).

The library is a bundle, i.e. a folder that is treated specially, as if it were a single document, by the Finder. The actual picture files live somewhere inside the bundle. They are not normally accessible directly, unless in the application, or if you drill down the bundle. If you want to use some photos in another application the usual way is to export them in Photos and save the exported files somewhere in your drive and use them
