I have downloaded it 3 times. Running 11.2.1. Have direct 1gb ethernet connection to the iMac. I have tried to install it several times. Gets to Preparing to Install time remaining 15 minutes then never completes. Have been attempting this over a hour.

FWIW, the update doesn't count down. It stays on 15 mins for a time, then switches to 10 mins for some time, then switches to 5 mins until it starts the install.
If that doesn't work, try while in Safe Mode.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I have 3 times to restart computer command+R and try to Reinstall macOS, but every time I had an old version... Recently I downloaded from Apps store and start to load but it stoped 52 mins.
Eventually completed. I just left it at the 15 minute remaining and went to bed. Next morning it had completed. I appreciate both advice but reinstall of the OS though an option I wouldn't have done. Many things can affect an OS update or install. As this was very minor one I was ready to wait.
Restart Router then restart computer and Command + r immediately and Reinstall macOS
