OneDrive keeps moving to bottom of Finder Favorites

I'm on a MacBook Pro early 2015 running OS 10.14.6. I have a subscription for MS Office and had previously installed it through the App store. The App store notified me that updates were available; however, they wouldn't download (the wheel kept spinning forever). Microsoft told me that MS Office through the App store has limited features, so I downloaded MS Office from their website and installed it that way.

I put the OneDrive icon at the top of my Favorites in Finder.

Now, every time I restart, the OneDrive icon ends up at the bottom of my Finder Favorites.

I saw an online article that said that installing OneDrive through the App store fixes the problem:

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/298152/onedrive-folder-keeps-moving-to-bottom-of-finder-favorites-sidebar

However, when I try to install OneDrive through the App store, I can't download it – the wheel just spins forever.

Is it because I'm running OS 10.14.6? I don't want to update to Catalina because the versions of some of my work software (video editing) isn't supported in Catalina.

Hi ykt28403,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that the OneDrive app moves in Finder after you arrange it to your preference.

Installing from the App Store is definitely a good idea. Are you able to download other apps from the App Store or does this happen with other apps as well? Are you able to test another network and if so, does this happen on a particular network?

We also recommend testing in another user account which can isolate whether this issue is system-wide. If you don't have another admin account, you can set up a temporary account to test. Check out Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac for guidance.

Take care.

ykt28403,

Have you tried deleting the existing OneDrive app before purchasing and downloading OneDrive from the App Store? The existence of the OneDrive app on your Mac may be preventing it from installing.

If you've tried removing the app and are still not able to download it from the App Store, it may be best to reach out to Apple Support. You can reach out from Get Support or using the direct phone number for your region from Contact Apple for support and service.

Best wishes.

ykt28403,

Do you have any issues installing other apps from the App Store? How much storage space is available on your Mac? Make sure there is plenty storage space for the app. You can find that information and manage storage using the guidance from How to free up storage space on your Mac.

Make sure that you are using the steps from Customize the Finder toolbar and sidebar on Mac when rearranging your Favorites in Finder. Did you use the test account to see if this Finder issue occurs there as well? If so, what was the result?

Have a great day!

Uninstalling seems to have worked. I followed the steps in this sales article:

https://nektony.com/how-to/uninstall-onedrive-on-mac

I'm not sure if just uninstalling was enough, or if I had to delete all the OneDrive related files in ~/Library.

Unfortunately, after reinstalling and launching OneDrive, it has to sync the huge folder I was telling you about before I can tell it to not sync to that folder. The folder is larger than I have space for on my Macintosh HD (over 116 GB); so I had to copy my OneDrive folder to an external hard drive and temporarily make that my OneDrive folder.

Hopefully I don't have to go through this again when there's a OneDrive update.

I have 115 GB free space on my Macintosh HD. I used the steps from Customize the Finder toolbar and sidebar on Mac when rearranging your Favorites in Finder.

The test account is a bit misleading because it looks like OneDrive forces the icon to the bottom after OneDrive auto launches and starts running. In my main user profile, OneDrive starts as a folder at the top of my Favorites; then, once OneDrive starts running, it changes it into an icon then forces it to the bottom:

I don't want to launch OneDrive under the test account because I have a huge folder on OneDrive that I have set to not sync. If I launch OneDrive on my test account, even if I point it to the OneDrive folder under my main user profile, it has to download the entire unsynced folder before I can tell it to not sync that folder.

I am able to download all my apps from the App store except for Microsoft Office apps. They were all fine until the latest MS Office update, after which they will no longer download through the App store. I'm on OS 10.14.6. Are the most recent versions of MS apps in the App store not compatible with OS 10.14.6?

If I can get OneDrive through the App store, it appears that it would fix my problem:
