Wired mode for Magic Keyboard can be used wired only?

I always leave my Lightning cable plugged into my keyboard at all times except when my Magic Mouse needs recharging. I've been doing this for at least two years without any issues. With the Lightning cable connected to the keyboard the keyboard does not show up as being connected in the Bluetooth menu. If I disconnect the Lightning cable the keyboard then appears as connected in the Bluetooth menu. Hope that helps answer your question.

Just thought I'd share what Apple support told me when I called today asking about it--they said that it is still transmitting wireless connection even if wired is plugged in.
