Time machine backup interrupted

Time Machine back ups failed twice. Tried Apple suggestion :

(1) Click the time machine icon in the menu bar

(2) Press and hold the Option key, then choose Verify Backups.

Nothing happens. Is there another way to Verify Backups?

Using WD My Passport with Big Sur 11.1

Time machine hanging on verifying backup Hi, I am trying to do a backup on time machine by wifi to an AirPort. I have been reading other posts and take on board a couple of things that will be making the backup a lengthy one: a) I did a lot of clean up on the mac prior to the backup, so there are lots of changes and b) as I have been travelling over the past 6 months I was backing up to another smaller external hard drive. I have now waited 48 hours and there is still no change to the 'verifying backup ...' status. What do I do? Do I cancel and retry, cancel and retry on the hard drive I used while travelling, or just keep waiting? I'd appreciate some advice, or anyone else's similar experience on this please.

Failed backup from Time Machine to My Passport for Mac external hard drive My Passport for Mac has worked to accept backups from Time Machine, but now I get an error message stating that it can't do it any longer. I tried to run First Aid using Disk Utilities, but get an error message there too. In the exclusion box, My Passport for Mac appears but is grayed out, so I can't delete it from that file. Any thoughts?

Hold down those keys and then click the menu icon.
