HomePod making popping noises and loud outburst

Has anyone else had the problem with their HomePod popping and making loud "fart" sounds?

I contacted Apple support and they said it's a hardware issue and that I would have to pay $318 (more than the original $299) to get it fixed because it is out of warranty . I am so frustrated over this. This speaker should last more than a few years.

I have this problem too. Tried described everything on-line - resetting, disconnecting etc. Still makes popping noise intermittently. Contacted Apple support, dropped HomePod off at local Apple store. One hour later, I was told that I could either,

Buy a new HomePod with a 1-year warranty for £279
Get a slightly cheaper serviced HomePod with only 90 days warranty for £249
Take back my HomePod, cross my fingers and hope that a future firmware update fixed the popping noise.

I'm unimpressed. I expected more from a £300 speaker after 18 months and I expected more from Apple.
