iPad mini 2 IOS 12.5.1 cannot connect to router running WPA2/WPA3

I have an old IPad Mini IOS 12.5.1 that cannot connect to a router running WPA2/WPA3 Transition encryption. I get an error “Incorrect Password”, even though I know my password is 100% correct. I’ve tried resetting network settings, hard resets, rebooting the router and even sharing the password between my iPhone 11 on the same WiFi network and this iPad. Same error. I know if I lower my encryption back to WPA/WPA2 it will connect, however that puts my entire network at risk. Not an option. Please Help.

Older iPads will not handle the newer encryption protocols.

You should just follow Apple's advice here for using a lesser encryption protocol if you want to keep WiFi network access for your older iPad Mini running iOS 12.

I had to do this to keep using my older 6th gen iPod Touch and my old iPad 2 and 3 models.

There is simply no choice when using older mobile devices on your Home WiFi network.
