SuperDrive Power supply

SuperDrive is not receiving power. I plug it into an approved adapter USB-A to USB-C multiport and a notification pops up and informs me I need to plug the USB connected to the SuperDrive into a USB port "on this Mac". I am using a 2019 MacBook Pro 4 USB-C port. There is no USB-A port. I check the adapter for possible power supply issues and I plug in the USB-C power cord for my MacBook Pro into the adapter to check there is power running through the adapter and it begins to power the MacBook Pro. I unplugged the HDMI cable from the monitor as well and left the SuperDrive in the adapter (after unplugging everything) and still no power. The first few times I plugged it into the adapter it made a clicking noise and now it doest make any sound or accept any type of disc. Thank you.

PS. I literally opened a brand new SuperDrive I ordered online last night about 5 minutes ago to use it.
