SIM card

I’m handing back a sim card provided by my employer which I used for personal and business calls. How do I make sure I don't loose my personal contacts?

I do not have a sim card in my new iPhone. Is that normal? I have a new iPhone xr and there is no sim card in the tray. Is that a mistake? Or are they sold that way?

An iPhone does not store contacts or any other user data on a SIM card.
