It sounds as though you're seeing 'E' next to the signal bars on your iPhone X, and seeking to remove that icon. The E indicates that you're iPhone is connected to the Edge or 2G network. That will change depending on the type of cellular data or Wi-Fi connection your iPhone is connected to. If you're in a region that offers different cellular data connections such as 2G, 3G, 4G or LTE you will so those appear. You can also verify that cellular data or mobile data is enabled in Settings > Cellular Data or Mobile Data.
