I am traveling and took my AppleTV version 3 with me. I do not have the AppleTV remote and was thinking I could use my iPhone as I would at home. My AppleTV thinks it is on my home network and my iPhone is on the local network so they won't connect. Can I force the AppleTV to connect to my iPhone? I do have an option of a hotspot but that seems like the same two network issue.

In order to use the remote on on your phone it would need to be on the same network, and you would need a physical remote in order to connect the Apple TV to that new network. The alternative would be to restore the Apple TV and pair with a BT keyboard upon setup.

The Macbook has a built in keyboard, Apple's magic keyboard is what would be considered a BT keyboard. It would also require a restore of the unit to factory settings in order to pair with it during setup.
My silver Apple TV remote does not control the Apple TV either. Fresh battery but no response. Will the keyboard on my Macbook work as a BT keyboard? If yes, why wouldn't my iPhone connect with BT? I'm in Mexico and probably cannot get an Apple delivery.
