Malwarebytes

An icon for Malwarebytes has appeared at the top of my screen. It tells me it needs full disk access. I have never installed this, I don't know how or why it is there. I don't know what to do about it. I am not tech savvy, which is why I like Apple products. Any help would be appreciated. I have just upgraded to Big Sur and Malwarebytes remains.

Malwarebytes is not installed by any other means than deliberate download and installation. It will not harm your Mac, and should you run it, it may actually discover and offer to remove adware/malware.

If you do not want Malwarebytes installed on your Mac, you can find it in your /Applications folder, whereupon launching, you will note an Uninstall Malwarebytes menu item on its Help menu.

On the Desktop at top look for Go menu and click it. It will present a drop down series of thing to Click - choose Applications. Now look for an icon representing MalwareBytes. If it there? Right Click the Icon and choose "Get info " . Make notation of details regarding the Maker of this Application. In the below screen shot I am using a Trusted Developer called Carbon Copy Cloner as example only. You should provide similar information. If yours looks similar - the MalwareBytes is probably Authentic and not Malware. How it got there, It could only be installed if one purposely downloaded it and gave it permission to install. Review what has recently been installed and if all recent installation were Directly form Trusted Developers. Downloading from Third Part Site often bundle an application with Malware and it the malware gets installed along with the Intended Application.
