Using Migration assistant with Ethernet cable

Im trying to transfer my iTunes library from a Windows Laptop to a Mabook, using migration assistant. However, when I connect using the cable, it doesn't give me the option to use ethernet, just wifi, which would take forever. Can you tell me how to get the Laptop and MacBook to see each other please ? I have followed the Apple advice in regards to the port 445 being open.
