Thunderbird email plaform and Apple iCloud

When using a 3rd party email app to access iCloud email you need to use an app-specific password instead of your usual Apple password. In order to do that you need to turn on two-factor authentication if not already on. See: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support and Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support

Sorry, that is not an option if you want to use Thunderbird (or any other non-Apple mail app) for iCloud email.

You will need to do two things:

1. Turn on two-factor authentication. Click on the following and read the instructions there: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support
2. Get an app-specific password and use it in Thunderbird instead of you normal Apple password. See: Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support
