You may have accidentally removed it from your home screen however it cannot be permanently deleted from the iPhone. Check in the App Library which is the last screen on your iPhone when you continue to SWIPE LEFT until you reach it. Find the Messages app icon in the App Library and then Touch and Drag it out of there and on to your favorite home screen.
