Your iPad is too old.

For YouTube, you will need to use a Web browser to access the actual YouTube Website.

AND, that over 4-year old default iOS Safari Web browser is too old, not secure and not safe to use to access the Internet, any longer.

There are virtually NO MORE third party Web browsers left for 8-10 year old iPads!

Available and more popular third party Web browser choices are pretty much GONE, now.

If you must use these old iPad models, here is what is left for still updated Web browsers.

Pickins’ are slim, now!

ALook Web browser ( A fairly new Web browser primarily designed for old iOS device versions, but is still available to newer iOS/iPadOS devices, as well )

Dolphin Web browser

Maxthon Web browser

TOR private browser

TOR + VPN private browser

Turbo VPN private browser

This is pretty much it for iOS 9/10 compatible, third party Web browsers today.

So, use the YouTube Website, instead.

Good Luck to You!

The Youtube App can only be installed on iPads with iOS11 or later installed. The error that you see indicates that your iPad is either too old to support iOS11, or that your iPad requires update (if capable).

Whether or not you are able to update your iPad to a newer version of iOS/iPadOS will be dictated by your iPad model - and the currently installed version of iOS. You can find this information here:

Settings > General > About

Not sure which iPad you have? Identify your iPad model.

Here is a list of the highest version of iOS supported by the older models of iPad (for simplicity - “generations” are shortened to a number) that are restricted in their ability to be updated:

iPad1 - iOS 5.1.1

iPad2, iPad3 and iPad mini1 - iOS 9.3.5 (WiFi Only models), iOS 9.3.6 (WiFi & Cellular)

iPad4 - iOS 10.3.3 (WiFi Only), iOS 10.3.4 (WiFi & Cellular)

iPad Air1, iPad mini2 and iPad mini3 - iOS 12.5.1

Newer models, not appearing in this list, are all able to be updated to the current version, iPadOS 14.4.

Your issue would suggest that you have an iPad2, iPad3, iPad4 or iPad mini1. As you can see from the preceding list, update of these models to iOS11 or later is not possible. These are all 32-bit architecture devices - all of which a long ago obsolete.

If your iPad is capable of being updated to a more recent version of iOS/iPadOS than is currently installed, these support pages outline both the available methods by which the update can be performed - and troubleshooting should you experience difficulties:

Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update - Apple Support

iOS update and restore errors – Apple Support

If you iPad is an older model, you would be well advised to consider replacement with a more recent iPad capable of running iPadOS14.x. Any of these models will not only be compatible with the vast majority of Apps, but will massively outperform an older model iPad in every respect.

Some web-based services, such as Youtube, may still be accessible to you using a standard web-browser. That said, many services also have minimum browser requirements that cannot be met by older devices.
