USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter

I ordered a USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter for my MacBook Pro 13" macOS 10.15.6 and this adapter doesn't seem to work at all? This is my second adapter they had to send me because my first one also wasn't working. I'm curious if I ordered the wrong adapter for my laptop ? or if anyone else is struggling with this as well? My head phones work with my adapter for my iphone, so i don't believe my headphones are the issue here. SOS <3
