Case sensitive file system

I made the mistake of buying an older imac with a very slow hard drive that cannot be replaced internally with an SSD. To get around that, I use an external SSD, which works great. But it was set up using case sensitive format, making it unable to to back up on drives that are not formatted as such.

What I need is a way to back up the SSD, preferably with time machine. Any suggestions?

Time machine won't allow me to back up from an external drive to a designated drive. Even without time machine - how can you back it up with another drive?

Time Machine should backup the startup drive (however you have it attached), and any other external drives to the drives you select in the Time Machine System Preferences.

Having never tried that setup, I can't advise without more information. What error messages are you getting telling you that it cannot back up to another external drive? Post some screenshots of the messages.

If it is the Case Sensitivity, did you format the backup drive case-sensitive?
