Hi there Thats_It_7-11,

From what we can tell, your Mac is frozen on AirDrop and doesn't seem to be responding as expected. We’re glad you’ve connected with us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some guidance.

Have you tried force quitting AirDrop rather than restarting your Mac?

"If the app is frozen and unresponsive, choose Apple menu  > Force Quit, select the app in the dialog that appears, then click Force Quit. You may lose unsaved changes."

If that doesn't seem to help, you'll want to follow the remaining suggestions in this link, including restarting your Mac:

If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac

Cheers.

Hi Less,

unfortunately, the airdrop app did not appear on the force quit list. That was the second thing I tried.

I left the computer on overnight and the next day i was able to click the cancel button in the airdrop share screen and the share screen closed. i was then able to engage Airdrop once again and send a photo to my iPhone.

I’ve had this happen 3 times since upgrading to BigSur.
