Updating apps?

If I have two phones and I update an app on one phone will the the other phone have that same updated app or can I keep the previous version of the app?

In other words, I turned off the auto-app updates to avoid updating 1 specific app. I want a new iPhone, but don't want this to result in the application updating. you need to update phones separately, this applies both to apps and ios
