I always have to reset NVRAM after my mac sleeps to get the microphone working. How do i prevent this?
Mac mini (Late 2014)
2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB
I have an external mic (HyperX Solocast) that I use to attend Zoom meetings, etc. I have a windows computer that I also use for gaming, so I tend to unplug the mic from the Mac mini and plug it into my PC. The problem is that when I plug the mic back into the Mac Mini, it is detected, but doesn't register any sound until I NVRAM reset the Mac, but I'm having to do this 2-3 times a day and it is making it difficult to use the computer. it only happens with this mic, because when I plug in a headset with a microphone, that mic works just fine. I'm suspecting the cause to be one of two things. 1: I tend to unplug the mic when the Mac is in the awake state, but the display is off. It's possible that the mac doesn't expect that. The other idea that I have is that I have a surge protector that I use to hook up the monitor to the wall, along with a bunch of other tech gadgets, and I turn it off every night. However, the Mac isn't plugged into this surge protector because I don't want it turning off by removing the power, I know that's really bad for the drive and would probably cause issues like this. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to let me know. I'm not 100% certain that Big Sur caused the problem, I haven't used this computer for long enough, but I have a suspicion that it is. Also, I had issues when installing Big Sur (got stuck on 1 minute remaining), so I ended up shutting down the computer by holding the power button, and I got a drive missing error. I ended up needing to reinstall Big Sur using recovery mode, so that's just some more information that may be the cause. I wouldn't appreciate needing to install Big Sur again, but if it comes to that, I'll do it. Also, the Mac is fully updated, so an update can't solve it.
