A spam email demanding money and threatening to blackmail me appears to have broken my email

I have been receiving copious amounts of spam emails since before Christmas and have been forwarding them to report@phishing.gov.uk. Yesterday I received a particularly nasty one that was slightly different in that it said I would not be able to locate he/she or forward the email because of the malware they had been using etc. Anyway, I decided to try to forward it but since then the email on my phone has not been receiving or able to send any emails. The email on my computer is working perfectly and I am still being inundated with spam mail. But I don't know what to do about my phone. Has this been caused by the email or is it something else? What is my best course of action?

Hi Poppycarrot,

We understand you're having some issues with spam messages, and being able to send and receive messages on your iPhone.

For the issue you're encountering on your iPhone, the steps on the following page may offer a solution: If you can’t send email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

For the spam messages you're seeing, the following page offers some helpful info. If the messages appear to try to impersonate Apple, the page also includes steps to report them to Apple: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

You can also set up Mail rules, to keep these types of messages out of your primarily inbox: Set up rules to filter email in Mail on iCloud.com

We hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your helpful reply. I will investigate all your suggestions.

Shortly after I posted my question I found a link to "speak" to an advisor. So, the following morning I initiated the call and I then had the pleasure of being assisted by a very kind lady who very efficiently talked me through the procedure of getting my email back on line. She reassured me that the spam email was not responsible for the problem, it was coincidence, and she also reported the offending email. I was overwhelmed that the problem I imagined to be so enormous was easily dealt with by using this support page. Thank you.
