Separating apple ids

How do I change my apple id without resetting phone?

My wife and I both have iphones and share an Apple ID. This has never been a big problem until we both got Apple watches.

I set up my own account and want to change my apple id but would also like to keep my apps and info on phone. How do I change apple Id without having to reset phone?

If I simply sign into my phone with my new id would my apps still work until they needed updated and could I then delete them and reinstall using my id. Appreciate this has been asked before but I thought this might change with different iOS s

Here's the thing... you don't have any apps. Apps are permanently tied to the account that was originally used to purchase/download them.

Though it is possible to use different IDs for iCloud and for the App Store, it can get very messy if you're not extremely careful.

You'll be better off in the long run going through this process of your phone: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

And then setting it up with your own account.

Make sure you have extracted any photos to your computer before you start.

There is no easy way out of this. Anything synced to iCloud will remain in the original account and can't be transferred.
