my phone says need to be updated so that i can install google meet. I really need it for my online class but then when i click phone update it says it cant be. How will i fix it please

One thing that you should know and confirm and that is whether you have an iPhone 6s or do you have an iPhone 6 (Without the S) This is important because an iPhone 6 can only be updated up to iOS 12.5.1 and NOTHING HIGHER. You need an iPhone 6s to update higher than that to iOS 14.x. Double check which iPhone you have.

Your problem is explained in the last sentence of the above display. You need to make space - so you need to remove data from your phone.
Google Meet app requires iOS 12 or above. What error message do you get when you try to update your phone ?
