I now have to airdrop it from my iPhone to my tv.

This started to occur on the Third of February. See my post here: "YouTube will soon only work with AirPlay" Popup Message on AirPlay and Apple TV - Apple Community. It seems there is now a new message - requesting that you upgrade to a newer Apple TV model, or use Air Play, if you have such a device.
