is there any problem reading external hard disc the mac os big sur? after update my mac book air to mac big sur suddenly it cannot read the external hard disc...
Ignore that last comment. I was not familiar with the layout of the Disk Utility Window.
You need to "Show all Devices" and select the Device to Erase/Reformat.
I have not had to erase/reformat a disk in 10years; only repartition.

I just got an M1 Mini which was updated to 11.2.3 almost as soon as I started it.
I am now trying to format a new 1 TB external drive, but I am not being offered GUID partition map format.
The normal HFS (journaled) will not allow me to portion the drive!
