Shared calendar invitation won’t open for invitee

im trying to share a calendar with my wife. When I send it to the email she uses for her Apple ID it doesn’t work. The first time I send it she doesn’t receive an email. When I resend the invite she receives an email but clicking on the link does nothing. If the link opens in Chrome on her desktop she gets an error that it can’t display the page. If she opens it with Safari she gets a blank page with a little rounded square spinning at the top. If she opens it in safari on her iPhone, she gets the same spinning square and a blank page.

I had to call Apple support. The issue was that I changed the email address I use as an Apple ID over a year ago. iCloud was trying to send it from the old email address. Fortunately I still had access to it and added the old email address to my contact card. Once the old email was on my contact card it successfully sent the invite.

tl:dr, make sure your old email is on your contact card if you changed Apple ID email addresses in the past.

I've also invited my mother to a calendar. When trying to accept the calendar through email (whether through logging in through browser, gmail app, or apple mail app) all we received was a spinning circle. We even tried using different email accounts and nothing worked. But when I opened up the Calendar app itself, there was a notification inside the app that I'd invited my mother to a calendar. I opened the notification within the Calendar app and accepted the invite without a problem, bypassing the email link altogether. I guess it's not a fix, but a workaround that worked for me.

Edit:

Note: The email I used in order for the calendar to show up in the Calendar app was the email linked to her Apple ID.

Solved.

I wanted to share our Home Calendar with my husband.

I sent the invite to his email address, and he just got the spinning square. He tried on his iPhone and his Mac. So I texted the invite, still gets the spinning square. We tried repeatedly, me inviting, canceling, inviting again. Always the same spinning square.

He opens Calendar on his iPhone and there’s a notification (1) in the lower right corner “Inbox”. Click that, and there’s the invite, where he then “accepts.” Problem solved.

It’s simple, sure, but not what we expected: we swear there USED to be a pop up notification on the iPhone screen when I invited him to share precious Calendars. And judging by this Discussions thread, we’re not the only ones who expected a different notification process.

I’m glad for the Inbox (1) but the email and text notifications should just say “you have an invite in your Calendar Inbox” if the links Apple is sending just lead you to a spinning box (“spinning beach ball 2.0”?).

In response to m00p00, I had the same problem of getting the little spinning box in Safari when trying to respond to the email invitation to share a calendar. I read the "Solved" solution, but my email addresses were all complete and correct. What worked was to change the browser! Ironically, Safari was blocking the invitation, but Chrome and Opera worked just fine. I assume Firefox would as well, but I didn't try it.

I also got the the problem of invites not getting through in either the iCal app or email. Occasionally the email invite would arrive which then led to the spinning box in Safari. I found 2 solutions:

  1. As the two posts above suggested I opened the email link (if it arrives!) in Chrome. It in turn presented a web interface to log in and the calendar can be added.
  2. I sent the invite to the invitee's .me address rather than the .mac address. It would then show up in the calendar inbox of the invitee and it can be added from there.

I suspect this has something to do with apple trying to move away from the .mac addresses. and is yet another example of apple's software upgrades delivering "two steps forward, one step back". Mind you, their iCloud service have always been pretty ropey since day 1 of MobileMe so at least it's better than it was. I would be happy to get a upgrade that just makes everything work for a change!

Hello m00p00,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We understand you are encountering some issues with trying to send an invitation to share a calendar on your iPhone. We are happy to help look in to this with you.

To begin, we want to make sure that the correct steps for sending a calendar invite are being followed. Take a look at the procedure to send a calendar invite here:

Share iCloud calendars on iPhone

We'd also like to ask some additional questions to get a better understanding of the situation and look to our next best steps.

  • Are you able to send calendar invites out to other people successfully, or does this same thing happen with everyone you try sending an invitation out to?
  • Have you been able to share calendars in the past with the device you are using?
  • Are other people able to send calendar invites and share calendars with you?

Keep us updated on how it goes and the answers to those questions.

Best Regards.

This is the same problem I am having on my iPhone and MacBook when being sent an invitation to an existing calendar from my wife's iPhone or iPad. Another has received a sharing invitation from my wife that she was able to accept on her iPhone. I can create a new calendar on either of my devices and share it with my wife (invitations worked properly).

After weeks of trying...I'm finally getting the email invitation (but no invitation on my calendar app). When I click the email invitation, I get redirected to iCloud on Safari and that spinning square. Nothing else!

Please help!! I am sharing 3 other calendars with no issues. This one had no issues until the owner invited another person to share. That went fine but it kicked me out! He has since stopped sharing with all/anyone. We're still having trouble getting back to the original scenario where I am the only one he shares with. Ideally, the calendar will be shared with 2 ppl. Shouldn't be a problem, but it is! Why?? Any suggestions?
