HomeKit

Is it possible to merge two "homes" within the Home app to consolidate all the devices? I was unable to add a new device and selected the option to add it to a new home which worked. Now I would like to get that device moved over to my original "Home" group of devices. Is this possible? Can the home file get corrupted? My devices in it seem to work but it would not let me install a new device.

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Hi Jim-airbook,

We see you've attempted to add a device to your existing Home hub, but weren't able to add it. You then tried to add it to a new Home hub and it did add there? Or did you create an entirely separate Home network?

Regarding "merging" two existing separate Home networks, that would not be supported, however one single network can have multiple Home hubs. For example, an Apple TV and an iPad can both serve as hubs on the same network.

Regarding adding your device, did you receive any specific error or message when attempting to add it? See more info about adding your accessories here:

Take care.

Hi Jim-airbook,

Thank you for the additional details.

If the Clermont network is working properly for all other devices, we'd recommend trying to connect the Circle View again. Disconnect it from the secondary network and then restart your iPhone, router and HomePods. After that try adding the camera back to your existing network.

If you're still unable to add it to your preferred network at that point, we'd recommend reaching out to the developer of the accessory for additional assistance.

Cheers!

The device I was trying to add is the Logitech Circle View Doorbell/camera from the Apple Store.

My iPhone is an iphone12 Pro Max and I'm running the latest IOS update.

My router is an eero Pro and it's software is at the latest level.

I checked the settings in the Home App and it was one of my HomePods that was connected as a bridge for HomeKit. The HomePods are running the latest iOS software for them.

My devices are set up under a "Home" named as "Clermont".

I could not get the iPhone to connect with the doorbell camera. As soon as the code was scanned it would say it could not connect and told me to check I was on the same wifi connection (which I was as was the doorbell since it came up in my network list on the router)..

Just to see what would happen I tried defining a second home in the Home App and called it "My Home". When I used that home and tried to connect with the doorbell it connect and installed. I guess if I have to I can live with it from a second home, but it will be annoying to have to switch between them to see the device and I can't consolidate it into favorites. This is why I was asking if there was a way to consolidate "homes" which you have indicated there is not. I can't fathom the thought of having to redefine all my HomeKit devices in a new home hierarchy in the home app. I have a lot of devices and many have the scan code on the back of them and will require deinstallation to find the code.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Is there a way to do a validation on my "Clermont" configuration? The devices that are in it seem to be working.
