Use of Firewire cable on iMac

I want to download video from my video camera to imovie on imac. On MacBook I use DV to Firewire cable. How can I transfer video on the new imac?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

We need to know the year of your 21.5" iMac, at the least you will need a Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter. If you have a Mac that Thunderbolt 3 then you will need a second adapter a Thunderbolt2 to USB C adapter.

Nope you need all 3 adapters plus your Firewire cable. Because you are connecting fairly old technology to newer technology you need all of the adapters in order to connect your camera to your Mac. It it all seems a little overwhelming you can take your videos to a video conversion service, let them know the file format you want your video in and they will do it for a price.
