I have older version of iphone se and purchased a ringtone using itunes. Unfortunately i have been unable to use it as steps described for newer versions do not correspond to menu buttons i can see. Kindly assist.

Did you buy a song or a ringtone?
Songs will not work as ringtones.
Did you use the same AppleID in iTunes as you activated the phone eith (Settings, tap on your name.)

You are on ios14 so the latest steps should apply to you also
Settings, Sounds, Ringtone, then select the ringtone you purchased.
i cannot see my purchased tone/song however it sits under Music-library-songs
