Switch from wifi to cellular data

I will open an app, such as a podcast or online music in my house while connected to wifi. I go on my daily walk and about 5-10 minutes after leaving the house I lose the program. I push the forward button on the app and it does nothing but switch back to pause. I cannot restart the program by closing it and reopening it. The only way I can restart the program is by turning the phone off and then back on and restarting the app. I have my phone set to automatically switch between wifi and cellular data. Due to poor signal strength in my house I cannot connect directly to the cellular data to start the app prior to leaving my house. Is there something else I should try so that I don't lose the program and that the automatic switch from wifi to cellular takes place?

iPhone 11, iOS 14

The one thing that concerns me, in your post, is that you have to turn the iPhone OFF completely and then start it so that the app can connect to the cellular network. It should be an automatic transfer without any intervention at all. It appears that there is more than one app that behaves this way.

  1. Open Settings ➔ Cellular ➔ Wi-Fi Assist (All the way down) : Ensure that this is set to ON.
  2. Open Settings ➔ General ➔ Reset ➔ Reset Network Settings : You may need to re-enter your Wi-Fi Passwords again after resetting the network settings.

See if one or both of the above resolves your issue.

Thanks for the tips. Wi-Fi assist was already on. I did reset the network settings. I went for my walk and had the same problem. When the signal cuts off I cannot access any other data or apps on the phone. I wait about five minutes to see if something would change and it did not. I turned the phone off and then back on and was able to open the app and listen to the streaming program again.
