Yes: Restore from a Backup:

Have you recently created a backup of your Mac prior to upgrading to El Capetian? if so, restore from the backup. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always backup your Mac, prior making any major change to your device, such as an upgrade. Use a Laptop Cooler, while backing up - place the hard drive and laptop each on its own laptop cooler.

If No Backup Exists:

If you have no pre-Catalina backup of you Mac, then you would:

  1. Backup: you Mac
  2. Boot: into Recovery Mode [Hold Down command R] upon boot
  3. Erase: the hard rive
  4. Install: macOS with a USB Bootable Installer
  5. Migrate: data from Time Machine Backup created in Step 1

Provide Feedback:

Do your Part: With the Mac overheating after the macOS upgrade, let Apple know about this. Recommend to them that this should be looked into, when you came across this, and how long it has been occurring. To do so, provide Apple feedback on this.

The Point of Providing this Feedback:

Apple won’t get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what bugs are out there, and what needs to be fixed.

To Leave Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: Performance” for the “Feedback Type
  3. Select: Software/Firmware Update” for the “Feedback Area
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
