recover iPhone with a MAC
My iPhone 8 screen was broken, it still seems to be working but the screen is black. Is there a way to back it up to my MAC or recover it to my MAC without being able to see the screen?

Nope, sorry. If you haven't been backing up your phone, it's too late to worry about that once the phone is damaged. The time to ensure you don't lose data is BEFORE a phone is damaged. It "may" be possible for Apple to replace the screen on your phone without losing your data, but that cannot be guaranteed, depending on the damage which the phone sustained when it was damaged.
