You gotta make sure though that your Mac device is eligible to download the OS you want. Visit https://support.apple.com/kb/SP777?locale=en_US to see that your device can run it!
Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and if your Mac meets the requirements in the article MichaelFine linked to, download Mojave through the link provided. Older OS versions won't appear when searching the Mac App Store.
