My wife’s purchases require a code from my account? How do we stop that process from happening? She is a Parent / Guardian and I do not want to approve purchases as this is childish.

How do all adults in family sharing have their own purchasing rights? Currently my wife has to ask permission from me to buy. Awkward and dumb. How can I fix?

Sounds like ask to buy is enabled: “Review your Family Sharing settings“ at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203025

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap [your name] > Family Sharing.
  3. If you're the family organizer, make sure Purchase Sharing is turned on. Then you can tap a family member's name to see if Ask to Buy is turned on for their account.
