My contact picture icons suddenly disappeared

The little pictures of people that are linked to their contact (not anything I did—they just showed up on my phone) are gone. I’m not sure what I did!

move tried all of the steps found when I googled—toggled the contacts through iCloud and then turned back on and merged. I also did this with each of my accounts to sync contacts—turned them each off and on and then resynced iCloud.

this all started when some of my contacts weren’t showing names anymore—just numbers. I seem to have fixed that but now the icon pics are missing.

HELP!

Contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

How many Contacts account (email client server) you have?
What is your default Contacts Account?
Which email account you are using to store Contacts?
