MacOS High Sierra app is damaged?

Howdy, pop up window from apple app store says copy of macOS High Sierra app is damaged and therefore cannot be installed. ?? I have a 2011 Mac, and hence this is the last version that will run on the machine so I've been informed. I do I get an undamaged copy?
