Data upload via USB from Zoom H4N Pro to MacOS 10.15.7 Catalina

I followed all the directions (Video tutorials and Zoom H4N user manual) -- I cannot "select USB Storage" on my Zoom H4N Pro screen - and it doesn't show up on my desktop as an external drive. A previous Q&A in this forum suggested changing cables may help - I tried that too, and same response. Here are the steps that were recommended:

1) Plug USB cable into Mac and into the Zoom H4N Pro (turned off - it will turn on when the cable connects)

2) The Zoom H4N screen will say USB and ask to select from "Storage" or "Audio I/F" and choose storage to access the SD card in the Zoom H4N device or "Audio I/F" to use Zoom H4N as a recorder. (I needed the first option so I select "Storage".

3) A screen comes on that says USB Storage (with USB icon) and a picture of an SD card and a computer with arrows blinking to and from. This is now supposed to be "selected" using the Zoom H4N's "select" button --- DONE.

Then nothing happens -- the screen stays the same and there is no evidence of the Zoom H4N on the Mac desktop showing it as an external device! I tried two different cables - one that came with the Zoom H4N device. When I pull the cable (because there is no device to "eject" from my Mac) - I get a message that the device was improperly ejected. Since I have tried this a few times with the same results - I fear risking any damage by troubleshooting on my own anymore -- ANY IDEAS out there...?

Many thanks in advance for any possible tips.

Hey MacLearner2021,

We understand that you can't get your Zoom H4N Pro to appear as a device with your Mac device, even after trying multiple cables. If you haven't already, let's make sure the firmware for it is updated. You can do that by clicking the "Firmware" option under the Software section of this article: H4N PRO BLACK

You can also see if restarting your Mac may help: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac It can seem like a simple step, but it can sometimes help resolve issues.

Another step you can take, is to test this in a test user. This can show if the issue is happening only with your user or any user on your Mac, which can help isolate this further: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Take care!
