Bought a Kia K5 with wireless carplay. Carplay is singlehandedly making me considering returning the car as a whole.

My oh my where do i begin. Ive had this car for only but a week, and i’m very happy with it with the exception of 1 major flaw, being that the wireless carplay is basically useless. Every single trip that i make and i turn on carplay, at least twice or more during the trip my phone will disconnect itself from carplay and reconnect itself (sometimes it doesnt reconnect at all). Not only that, but music CONSTANTLY and i mean CONSTANTLY pauses itself i guess to buffer or load despite being saved in my phone. Its like the music stutters, and when my phone reconnects, all music stops. To the point where every other song is butchered and sounds glitched. I called my salesman, and he said its a Wireless carplay issue that apple is fixing yet i see threads here as far back as 2019 about it. How can I fix this and what do i do? I have an iphone X and work at AT&T so i’m quite competent with phones and attempted basic troubleshooting already (reconnected carplay to my phone, turned off wifi, even changed device name, etc)

Hey there, marcoscruz365! Congratulations on your new Kia K5.

We know how exciting it is to purchase a new car, and how important it is that your iPhone connect with it the way you expect. We pulled up the Vehicle Feature Tips that Kia makes available on their website for the 2021 K5, and it looks like while they offer wireless charging, under the section "Smartphone Connectivity" Kia states that a USB connection is required for CarPlay to be used on this model automobile.

Some other resources you can check out include the Kia Features & Functions Videos YouTube channel, where you can view their video tutorial, Apple CarPlay: Getting Started, as well as Apple's Use CarPlay with your iPhone guide, which covers additional settings.

Our recommendation would be to try and see if you can connect to CarPlay using a USB connection first, and if you can, possibly testing with another iPhone to see if we can isolate the issue to either your iPhone X, or to the Kia's wireless feature. You may also want to speak with the dealership to see if the issue is limited to your device connecting to this particular car, and seeing if it can connect to another car without issue.

Give those steps a try, and it should help narrow down the possible reasons for the behavior. Once you've been able to eliminate some of the possible causes, it will be much easier to find a targeted resolution.

Take care.
