Camera not found

I recently updated from Mojave to Big Sur and suddenly my camera stopped working.

Tried with multiple apps but the camera is not detected at all (even looking at the hardware recap page).

I tried to update to the latest OS (now I am actually at 11.2.3), check all possible preferences, reset NVRAM/PRAM/SMC and many different suggestions on the web.

It seems that I am not the only one with this issue (look for "big sur camera not found" and you will see a pletora of results). I have a 13-inch, 2017, two Thunderbolt ports MacBook Pro.

Any idea?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Joseph_S,

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately this is part of what I have already done: Screen Time settings seem to be ok, permissions too, I reset the SMC.

The camera is not detected at all and the camera indicator light is dead as well.

I also uninstalled all the external apps that have access to the camera (in case they are creating issues)

I guess the only remaining software-related action is reinstalling macOS (even erasing disk first) but this is something I was trying to avoid (it is time consuming).

I just find it very curious that the problem appeared by coincidence just by updating to BigSur.

Thanks again!
