Probably has something to do with the HP support page not listing drivers for recent releases—even though one of the various HP driver packages apparently does contain drivers for that printer? In any case, check with HP support?

You asked “Why are people saying that HP printer officejet 4500 g510n-z is not supported by Big Sur?”, and I presented a reason why that presumption might exist.

HP may well have retired that printer, and not yet removed support from the omnibus driver kit. Or nobody at HP has updated the printer support page since OS X 10.9. Both have seemingly happened over there before, too.

And vendors do tend to have a specific definition of “support”, which can differ from whether the widget works or not. Based on the printer support page, that printer does look to be unsupported with releases after OS X 10.9.

Dude it's simple if you have a HP printer officejet 4500 g510n-z ,even though it's no longer in production ,i'm providing the driver link for this model if your Mac is running macOS Big Sur.It is supported with HP driver v5.1 for macOS up to Big Sur.I have this printer installed the driver and is fully working. But it has to be on the same network as your Mac in order to add it in settings.
