I have connected an LG 27UL850-W.AEU to the Mac Pro late 2013 via HDMI. All works fine. Only I cannot adjust the brightness of the screen via the controll on my keyboard. Also tried the USB C via a USB C to Thunderbolt 2 connection into my Mac Pro. But it didn't solve the problem. Is there a way to change the brightness of the monitor with the control keys on my keyboard? B

Are you using an Apple-branded keyboard?
Have you had the chance to try different keyboard? If yes, are you experiencing a similar issue?
Have you had the chance to try different monitor? If yes, are you experiencing a similar issue?
Also, have you had the chance to manually adjust the brightness through System Preferences?

I've never found any documentation that external monitor brightness control works for anything other than Apple displays or LG Ultra-Fines, but it is possible other Thunderbolt and USB-C displays are supported. I'd suggest going back to the USB-C via Thunderbolt-2 connection and trying to make that work.
I don't think there is any native MacOS support for HDMI brightness control. At least, I've never gotten HDMI brightness control to work on my Mac Mini.
