I started to backup my phone in my MacBook air. It suddenly stopped halfway through and around 50GB of storage are taking up space and i cannot find where it is stored.

• Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

To find a specific backup:

"On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder.

On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes."

[Not all Mac storage is suspect. Consider there's likely

a larger section known only as 'Other', involved.] See:

Hopefully you've additional backups (two or more) for the macOS: incl. Time Machine,

on external USB drives. And other backups; consider full-clones of the Mac in addition.

Powered external drives with fast ports, are good to run the Mac from, as needed.
