Choppy sound over bluetooth headphones?

To start, I have a late 2014 model iMac running Big Sur 11.2.3. The only other bluetooth device connected to that mac is a magic mouse. Whenever I try to stream music over bluetooth to my Cowin headphones, the sound is extremely choppy. If I disconnect the mouse, the sound is normal. I know it’s not the headphones because the sound is fine when I play music from my phone. I’ve tried all of the known workarounds so far and nothing is fixing the issue. Any other ideas? Thank you!
