Can I default the library list to collaped in fcpx
Can I make the library lists collapsed by default? like this. At the moment I have a lot of material in the libraries and it opens in expanded mode by default.
thanks

You mean the list of events and such in the sidebar?
Click the first library at the top.
Then
L-arrow
D-arrow
L-arrow
D-arrow
.

will close all the libraries with very little effort. No painful clicking of those miserable "disclosure triangles."
I’m afraid not. V
You can always use feedback to make a request:
Final Cut Pro->Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback...
EDIT: you may want to take a look at CommandPost. It offers some features that one can't get with FCP alone, and their developers may be more willing to add this kind of feature.
Using Feedback gives no guarantee that your requests will be answered affirmatively, but it is the only way to let the developer team know. Some things get fixed quickly, some features may be added, some not.
Not sure if you got my late edit to my previous message, about Command Post. Since this is an open source community effort, they may be able to add stuff if there is something on the application they can use to provide extra functionality.
A notable example is the "scrolling timeline" feature that so many people requested and that CommandPost was able to make work.
I did that for a different problem and it took almost 2 years for a fix. Hopefully things will go better with this one.
Tech tip: Use Opt Up arrow in the Finder to move to the top; Opt Down arrow to move to the bottom. Also works in menus. Also works in the Library/Event sidebar and in the Browser in FCPX!
Also works in mail, and most likely other places. You must be focused on the list, however. And it doesn't work in Mail if you have the preview window up (partition not on the bottom). Wow, this works even in the big list in the FCPX Commands panel! I'm big on keyboard shortcuts.
Here's another:
Bring up the doc. Opt-L/R arrow will move the highlighted icon among the other icons.
I don't know why things like this aren't documented. Final Cut documents almost all of its own! I mean it screws up slightly on the Ctrl-Space and Space shortcuts. It says in the Command Detail box that Ctrl-Space is "System Reserved", but in the list it says Play/Pause, and it actually works the same as the spacebar. I reassigned Ctrl-Space to do nothing so that in Sys Pref my definition of going to the menu bar works when FCPX is up. It still says "System Reserved" in the Command Details box. Oh, and if the Mac has been up for a long time, Ctrl-Space suddenly stops working! I guess it "runs out" of something or other!
Could perhaps automater.app be of use for this? Just askin'.
That tip about Option-Up and -Down is great, I did not know that!
I’ll try commandpost too. Good idea.
It doesn't collapse the menu though, which is what I'm after. Just jumps from one library to another.Interesting, but not what I'm after. Thanks
I saw the CommandPost bit just a short while ago. I'll check it out. Thanks!
"Bring up the doc." That should be "Bring up the dock," of course.
